The Milwaukee Brewers made no bones about the fact that they were in a rebuilding year. But their young phenom of a GM has given new meaning to banking on the future. They started with a fire sale over the winter and concluded with a flurry of activity up against the trading deadline getting rid of Jonathan Lucroy, a key cog this year in a most valuable position, their nearly unstoppable closer in Jeremy Jeffress and another solid member of the bullpen, Will Smith. They got four players with a huge upside. Four prospects who join a roster packed with prospects. Eight of the Top 100 by most baseball pundits. The young star on the hill for The Crew, Junior Guerra, sure has paid dividends a lot sooner than expected. Whether the lion's share of the rest will come through remains to be seen. It's a 50/50 wager that half of them will produce at the Major League level. What I do know is that the Brewer Faithful (and there are many) have been nothing but patient over the years. They have gotten spoiled with recent playoff appearance and might stay away from Miller Park which will surely impact the franchise's ability to make a splash in free agency anytime soon. The fans will hang in there. But it certainly won't be forever!
